Manufacturing Returning To United States

The United States is poised for a manufacturing renaissance within the next five years as the wage gap between China and the U.S. shrinks, according to a recent analysis by The Boston Consulting Group (BCG). ―We expect net labor costs for manufacturing in China and the U.S. to converge by around 2015,‖ predicts Harold L. Sirkin of BCG. Manufacturing of household appliances and construction equipment, which are produced in modest volumes and use modest amounts of labor, are most likely to lead the U.S. manufacturing resurgence.

Should we Promote Technical Education by Humbling the Esteem of a College Education?

A Documentary entitled "College Conspiracy" was just released by the National Inflation Association. It prompted me to find an article written two years ago by Kathy Kristof, for Forbes Magazine called, "The Great College Hoax." They both question the validity of choosing college as the only option for success.

President Announces 2012 Budget Request for Career and Technical and Adult Education

President Obama announced his 2012 budget yesterday, framing a comprehensive and responsible plan that will put the country on a path toward fiscal sustainability in the next few years. Agencies and programs across the government are facing level funding, or even budget cuts. The budget calls for a five-year freeze on discretionary spending other than for national security. It requires tough choices since every decision to invest requires cuts somewhere else.

The Community College Summit

Thank you from the Technical Education community for recognizing Community Colleges as a path to opportunity for millions of Americans. We believe this effort will ENERGIZE the entire education system. Community Colleges offer the programs and certifications that lead to JOBS. We face a shortage of Engineers and Technically Skilled workers. The technical programs that we advocate will help relieve some of the strain. We need Parents and Counselors suggesting to their children and students that Community College be an EQUAL choice when discussing continuing education.

Promoting S.T.E.M. in Aerospace Industry

We came upon some research that we discuss very often in Technical Education, in many of our subjects.A 2010 study by Aviation Week magazine found that, among companies with more than 100,000 workers, 19 percent of employees are now at retirement age. That figure will jump to more than 30 percent in 2012 and nearly 40 percent by 2014, the publication said.
