RectorSeal brings low-VOC solvents to market that meet LEED requirements

RectorSeal Corporation is now offering low-VOC (volatile organic compound) cements, solvents and compounds which meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design requirements for emissions given off during new construction projects using PVC, CPVC or ABS.

VOCs are responsible for a large portion of greenhouse gas emissions, such as methane, according to the Wikipedia entry. In addition to protecting the environment, Green Building and LEED-certified construction projects require the use of low-VOC compounds.

Also, many states have legislation mandating the use of low-VOC compounds, including California, Maryland, New Jersey and Conneticut.

But even in states where low-VOC compounds aren't required by law, contractors are reluctant to change the products they use, stated a representative of RectorSeal in a short interview. These professionals have preferences in the solvents and materials they use on the job.

Low-VOC chemicals aren't just used in plumbing and pipes, but in carpet cleaning, paint, wood stain and more.
