College Promise Campaign
All across the nation, we are building support for states and localities to create College Promise programs, which allow students to start and complete a community college education without taking on mountains of student debt. While individual program models vary, each is guided by the following core principles:
- A College Promise is a commitment to fund a college education for every eligible student, advancing on the path to earn a degree, a certificate, and/or credits that transfer to a four-year university, starting in America’s community colleges.
- It’s a promise to prepare students for the 21st Century workforce and the pursuit of the American Dream without the burden of unmanageable college debt.
- It’s a promise to make the first two years of community college – at a minimum – as universal, free, and accessible as public high school has been in the 20th Century.
The College Promise Campaign is a national, non-partisan initiative to build broad public support for funding the first two years of higher education for hard-working students, starting in America’s community colleges. We want the first two years of college to become as universal, free, and accessible as high school has been for nearly a century! While this is a national movement, local communities and states are leading the way to create College Promise programs, which cover tuition and fees leading to a community college degree or occupational certificate. Our Campaign encourages visionary leaders throughout our nation to use their ingenuity and persistence to put the College Promise in place, enabling students to complete their college degrees and certificates without the burden of unmanageable debt.
We are an initiative of Civic Nation, a charitable and educational 501(c)(3) organization that was founded in 2015. Civic Nation promotes sensible solutions to challenges in the areas of federal, state, and local policy. It educates the public about policy issues arising from those challenges. Civic Nation is the legal entity that houses and supports the infrastructure for the College Promise Campaign. No federal or state lobbying is conducted by Civic Nation on behalf of the College Promise Campaign.
