EMU Construction Management Program
The American Council for Construction Education (ACCE) has reaccredited Eastern Michigan University’s construction management program until February 2030. The ACCE is a leading global advocate of quality construction education. ACCE promotes, supports, and accredits construction management programs across the United States.
Through hard work and dedication, EMU’s construction management program has maintained its accreditation status with the ACCE since 1991.
“This reaccreditation is a testament to our commitment to providing students with a rigorous and comprehensive education in Construction Management,” said Suleiman Ashur, construction management program coordinator and professor of civil engineering and construction management.
“The visiting team has confirmed that our program has no deficiencies, weaknesses, or concerns. This rare and exceptional achievement speaks volumes about the high quality of our program’s faculty, students, industrial advisory committee, and industry observer, Melanie Myers,” he added.
Eastern’s strengths that led to the reaccreditation include:
- Quality program administration and dedicated faculty
- Producing high-caliber graduates and alums who look forward to helping the next generation
- Diversity of the program and the university as a whole
- An extensive and established list of articulation agreements with community colleges
- Support from industry leaders who provide mentoring, networking, and career opportunities early in the program
“Securing this reaccreditation is a great step that emphasizes academic excellence and high educational quality of the construction management program,” said Mohamad Qatu, dean of the GameAbove College of Engineering and Technology. “Since 1991, this accredited program has attracted employers and recruited exceptionally talented students,” Qatu said.
With a 100% hire rate, EMU students with construction management degrees are employed by many of the program’s local and national partners, including Woods Construction, DeMaria, Ideal Contracting, John E. Green Company, Granger Construction, Spence Brothers, Robertson Homes, National Enclosure Company, Clark Construction, DTE Energy, Barton-Malow, Turner Construction, and Walbridge.
“Special thanks to Suleiman Ashur for heading the accreditation, Adam Bodegain, Ben Ilozor, Raed Jarrah, and our inspiring construction management alumni and industry advisory board committee,” said Qatu.
