Metal Supplier Hands-On Experience
Welding students at the Clark State Welding Program receive real-world experience training for future careers thanks to metal products delivered by the local Metal Supermarkets store in Dayton, Ohio. To help address the urgent need for more skilled trade workers, Metal Supermarkets established a North American scholarship. 360,000 welding professionals will be needed by 2026. 84,000 positions are expected to be filled by next year. The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that skilled trades have millions of unfilled positions. Metal Supplier Hands-On Experience.
Metal for hands-on use
Blake Parrett, technical instructor for the Clark State Welding Program, is one of many educators helping students find their skilled trade career. Metals from Metal Supermarkets are provided in class to ensure that students have the proper hands-on and practical welding experience on a variety of metals including steel, cold rolled, hot rolled, pickled and more. The Metal Supermarkets team cuts metal to Blake’s specifications — including 800 pieces of steel cut into 6-inch lengths known as ‘welding coupons’ — that students are able to use to practice and hone their welding skills.
“The Metal Supermarkets team goes above and beyond what any metal supplier offers,” said Blake. “Owner Rick Valencia often personally delivers orders to the school and ensures that the students have what they need to succeed in the program that will lead to future careers in the skilled trades. Metal Supermarkets is very convenient for me, and I look forward to continuing relying on them to help teach students for years to come.”
“Metal Supermarkets is committed to educating and spreading awareness about the opportunities provided by a career in the skilled trades,” said Rick Valencia, franchisee of Metal Supermarkets Dayton. “By providing metal supplies to educational institutions, such as the Clark State Welding Program, we’re helping with the learning process for the next generation of trade industry workers.”
