STEM Education in Nevada
Clark County School District (CCSD) STEM programs and educators continue to lead the state in quality STEM curriculum. Eight CCSD schools and two educators were recognized this year for leading STEM initiatives with designations made by the Governor’s Office of Science, Innovation and Technology (OSIT). That makes a total of 27 CCSD schools now that carry this distinction. STEM Education in Nevada.
“We are proud to be recognized for our work in offering students a comprehensive STEM education curriculum,” said CCSD Interim Superintendent Dr. Brenda Larsen-Mitchell. “Incorporating science, technology, engineering and mathematics concepts into student learning early on supports future interests in pursuing education and careers in the field.”
Twenty-seven CCSD schools make up the list of STEM schools recognized by OSIT as of 2024. Forty Nevada schools were chosen for their exemplary performance by meeting the highest standards of STEM instruction and acting as models for schools across the state. CCSD schools represent more than two-thirds of the schools selected statewide.
The following CCSD schools are now recognized in 2024 as Governor Designated STEM schools:
- Sandra B. Abston Elementary School
- Roberta C. Cartwright Elementary School
- Kenny C. Guinn Middle School, STEM Academy
- Lomie G. Heard Elementary School
- Mabel Hoggard Math & Science Magnet School
- Rancho High School
- Southeast Career and Technical Academy
- West Career and Technical Academy

Two CCSD educators were also recognized by OSIT and the Nevada Department of Education for their dedication and leadership in STEM education:
- Dana Cuni, Southwest Career and Technical Academy: Southern STEM Teacher of the Year
- Claire Romzek, Lied STEM Academy: Southern STEM Advocate of the Year
